RC vehicles different scales
The scale is the size of the RC car, or rather the reduction of this with respect to a real car.
The bigger that is the number next to the 1, the smaller the car. To understand it easier: if the car has a scale of 1/12, it means that it is 12 times smaller than a real size car.
To understand it easier: if the car has a scale of 1/14, it means that it is 14 times smaller than a real size car.
Knowing this… Let’s talk about specific sizes!
Large scale
The common scales of large cars are usually 1/6 and 1/5.
They are usually about 1 meter long, which means they are quite impressive, but can only be used in large spaces.
To carry out maintenance and improvements, it is best to have your own space for the car, and even for storage.
They usually have gasoline engines due to their large size, and they are also usually rear-wheel drive (propulsion), which makes them a lot of fun.
Its price range is between €600 and €3,000.
Medium scale
The medium scale is the most common and practical in radio control vehicles.
Medium cars are scaled between 1/16 and 1/8, which makes them easier to store, to carry and to race anywhere.
Their prices range between €120 and €2,000, depending on the model.
There are a lot of competitions for this type of car, which is also an advantage of having an RC car of this scale.
They are also the ones that have a greater number of spare parts and upgrading accessories and it’s easy to work on them due to their size.
RC Bonzai vehicles belong to this category.
And now you know all its advantages!
Small scale
Size is usually about 25 cms and includes all 1/18 vehicles or less.
Their price ranges between €30 and €200. They are the cheapest!
You need a small space to store and carry them and you don’t require specific tools for its maintenance.
You can run anywhere, but it’s preferrable a flat ground because these cars have very little ground clearance.
They are usually designed for beginners or for children, so it is difficult to make improvements, find spare parts and participate in competitions.
Tips about RC scales
To choose the scale of your vehicle, you will have to take into account the following points:
- The size you have to store them.
- Where are you going to carry them and where are you going to make them run.
- If you want to make many modifications or not.
- If you want to compete, check the competitions available near you.
